Business Intelligence Engineer - Bellevue, WA
Position Overview
The Business Intelligence Engineer will be responsible for the identification, documentation, and validation of business reporting requirements across a wide range of industries. This person will be responsible for identifying data sources and designing data models as well as building tables, queries, reports, and dashboards that meet the business reporting requirements. Additionally, this role may provide training prior to rollout, along with post-project support. This position requires strong analytical skills and technology experience.
Areas of Responsibility
- Collaborates with the customer subject-matter experts to define needs
- Provide technical expertise in data extraction, transformation, loading, integration, and maintenance of data
- Design and build tables, queries, reports and dashboards within PivotLink
- Serve as the implementation lead for the design and deployment of small to medium engagements
- Assists Project Manager in developing work estimates, tasks and overall project approach and schedule
- Participates in team meetings and in issue identification/resolution
- Work with customers to develop a test strategy and success criteria
- Provide training to users on the system features and functionality prior to system release
- Serve as second-level support for customer issues
- Work with customers to investigate, identify and resolve data issues
- Conducts system troubleshooting, documents defects, and works with the development team to resolve issues
- Stay up-to-date with best practices and technology advances in the areas of data warehousing, business intelligences and decision support
- Actively participate in creating technical standards and repeatable processes
- Provides information to develop system documentation
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in IT/Business
- Exposure to all aspects of the Product Development Life-cycle, with a particular emphasis in project initiation, concept definition, requirements gathering, testing, end-user training and support
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with a variety of technical skill levels
- Ability to effectively communicate with senior management as well as with those from computer science and business backgrounds
- 5+ years experience with progressively greater responsibility working on complex database development, and reporting projects
- Experience implementing and managing business intelligence and/or enterprise database reporting solutions
- Thorough knowledge of data modeling concepts (ERD), architectures, design principles (OLAP), and data transformation (ETL)
- Thorough knowledge of design and integration principles related to complex databases
- Ability to translate complex technical terminology, concepts and issues in terms understandable to technical and non-technical management and staff
- Experience in requirements gathering, requirements analysis, and data modeling required
Skills
- Adaptability, ability to multi-task, and strong problem solving skills are required
- Experience working effectively with software engineering teams
- Ability to manage and drive home projects in a fast-paced environment
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL, Perl, and Unix shell scripting
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of file transmission protocols ftp, sftp, and scp
